Lady Hiltoppers Hoping For A Pink Out On December 6

In conjunction with the Montgomery County Health Department, Dec. 6, has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness Night by Hillsboro High School.

When the varsity Lady Hiltoppers take on the Carlinville Cavaliers that night, both teams will be decked out in pink and white uniforms.

The new jerseys are just part of the night's festivities which will feature a quadruple-header of high school basketball. The action starts with the JV girls game at 3 p.m., followed by the JV boys game (approximately 4:30 p.m.), the varsity girls game (approximately 6 p.m.) and ending with the Varsity boys game (approximately 7:30 p.m.). The Hillsboro dance team will also be performing at half-time of the varsity boys game.

Any spectator who wears a pink shirt to the game will receive one dollar off the price of admission. Cancer survivors will be recognized prior to the start of the girls varsity game and each will receive a free pink t-shirt.

Other plans include a raffle for free giveaways at halftime of the varsity boys game and each woman admitted to the game will be given a free raffle ticket.

The Orpheum Theater, with the Montgomery County Health Department, will be giving away free popcorn and at the conclusion of the varsity boys game, children ages 1-99, may receive a miniature pink basketball.

At the concession stand, the Hillsboro High School FFA will be selling pork patties and chips at the back of the gym from 5 to 8 p.m.

Saturday's game will be the first of five such events that will be sponsored by the Montgomery County Health Department, which is funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

In addition to the Hillsboro/Carlinville game on Dec. 6, the other special pink versus white games are: Southwestern at Gillespie on Dec. 15; Hillsboro at Litchfield on Dec. 20; Nokomis at Pana on Dec. 22; and Litchfield at Greenville on Jan. 8.

At each game, the girls will be wearing special pink and white jerseys and fans will be treated to free popcorn and giveaways like pink t-shirts, miniature pink basketballs and other items. Other events will vary from game to game and will involve local cancer survivors during the event.

This will be a chance for everyone to show their support in the fight against breast and cervical cancers by wearing something pink to the game. A challenge is made to each community to fill the gym with a sea of pink, cheer on the girls, and get a free bag of popcorn.

To get more information about these events, please call the Montgomery County Health Department at (217) 532-2001.
