Arnold L. Swick, 87, of Taylor Springs, died on Dec. 25, 2014, at Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

No services are planned. Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mr. Swick was born on May 16, 1927, in Shobonier, a son of the late Henry and Ida (Arnold) Swick. He was married to Marla J. Harris on Feb. 1, 1947, by the Rev. Orville Wright in Vandalia, and she survives.

Mr. Swick was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Panama Canal Zone.

He was the last known Sears appliance service man with 35 years working at Sears in Hillsboro and then Springfield.

A great Bluegrass fan, he helped build the stage in Hillsboro with Bill Obptande and went to many festivals though he did not play music himself.

He enjoyed spending time in the winter with friends in the McAllen, TX, area and doing crafts with his wife.

Along with his wife, Mr. Swick is survived by three sons, Gail (Rose) Swick of O'Fallon, MO, Gary Swick of Litchfield and Terry (Nancy) Swick of Taylor Springs; a sister, Anita Swick; seven grandchildren, Alisia (Rob) Moore, Amanda (Kevin) Fuller, Garrett (Brianne) Swick, their mother, Anita Swick of Hillsboro, Kim Swick, Ronald Swick, Jessica (Jim) Summers and Jacob Swick (companion Sara Johnson);11 great-grandchildren, Josh (Emily) Moore, Brandy Cheshire, Caleb and Allison Fuller, Landon and Nash Summers, Krislyn and Ben Swick, and Aidan, Brekin and Ava Swick; two great-great-grandchildren, Barrett and Elijah Moore; and a sister, June Kessinger of Kenosha, WI.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Swick, and two sisters, Dora Goldberg and Ona Curbis.

Memorials may be given to Hillsboro Area Hospital, Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center or the 9U Traveling Toppers Baseball Team.
