Bettie Jean McGibany, 86, of Wood River, died on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at 3:55 a.m. at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Mark's Mortuary in Wood River. Burial followed at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.
Mrs. McGibany was born on July 19, 1930, in Sorento, to the late William A. and Mary L. (Sisk) Reed. She married Loren Dean McGibany on Oct. 30, 1949, in Bethalto, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2004.
During her career, she worked as a bookkeeper for Skaggs Steakhouse and Olin and Alton Children's Clinic before retiring.
Mrs. McGibany was a member of the Panama VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary and East Alton American Legion Post 794 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Steven McGibany (John Talley) of Collinsville and Jeffrey (Patty) McGibany of Florissant, MO; four daughters, Teresa (Kevin) Take of Collinsville, Marla Kiel (Bobby Tepen) of Griggsville, Carol McGibany of Wood River and Lisa (Andy) Talkington of Wood River; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Kathie) Reed of Camdenton, MO; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela McGibany and a sister, Bonnie Skaggs.
