Bob E. Lamma, 86

Bob E. Lamma, 86, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy,  and formerly of Raymond, Auburn and Mt. Sterling died at 2:23 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with the Rev. Dave Ziegenbein officiating.  Military services will be held at the funeral home at the conclusion of the funeral.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.   

Per his request cremation will be accorded following the services, and burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Quincy Memorial Park.

Mr. Lamma was born Jan. 21, 1928 in Augusta, the son of Pansie Lamma.  He married Sharon Marshall on Sept. 5, 1975, in Auburn, and she survives.

Mr. Lamma was known as a man of many talents. He was an avid horseman who trained paint and quarter horses for several years.  He was also co-owner of The Corner Café in Auburn and The Windmill Inn in Raymond, and owned and operated a tire shop in Auburn, and served as a mechanic in Auburn, Mt. Sterling and Augusta.

Mr. Lamma, who attended Brown County schools, was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Army.

He attended the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Raymond, and was a member of the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Illinois Paint Horse Association, as well as a 36-year member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Sharon (Oberling) Lamma of Raymond; two children, Rob Lamma of Nashville, MI and Denise Pope of Morrisonville;  two stepchildren, Debora Oberling of Elmhurst and Douglas Oberling of Hamilton, MI; one brother, Dick Vance of Hannibal, MO; four sisters, Rose Brooks of Quincy, Inez McNeff of Mt. Sterling, Betty Lou Perry of Timewell and Phyllis Vanzant of Mt. Sterling; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pansie Lamma Bowers; one daughter, Monica Lamma Cleveland; two brothers, Ed Vance and Bill Lamma; and two sisters, Ruth Perry and Isabelle McClelland.

Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund or Chair Fund.
