Cliff R. Garst, 75, of Springfield died Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday, March 6, at Christ the King Church in Springfield.

Funeral services will follow visitation Friday at 10 a.m. at the church with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and U.S. Air Force will conduct military honors.

Mr. Garst was born on June 21, 1939, in Girard, the son of the late Alvy and Stella (Lutz) Garst. He married Linda Louise Oller on May 5, 1962, and she survives.

A resident of Springfield most of his life, he was an inspector for the Illinois State Fire Marshall and a retired division chief of the Springfield Fire Department.

Mr. Garst was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of The American Legion Post #32 and Springfield Motorboat Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by two sons, Mark (Lisa) Garst of Springfield and Michael (Kelly) Garst of Perrysburg, OH; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Ellie, Andy, Matthew and Thomas Garst; two sisters, Linda Jean Garbin of Girard and Evelyn Winterbauer of Tampa, FL; one brother, Donald Garst of Litchfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Mr. Garst was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Lomelino, Vera Killam, Connie Taylor and Dorothy Laswell; and two brothers, Robert and Henry Garst.
