Delmar Volentine, 78, of Sorento died at 3:52 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the funeral home with Richard Small officiating.

Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Volentine was born in New Douglas on March 7, 1937, the son of the late Dale U. and Irene (Schweppe) Volentine. He married Shirley Bruce on June 15, 1958, in Gillespie, and she survives in Sorento.

He attended the Barnett one-room school all eight years with the same teacher and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1955. He served in the National Guard in Litchfield for 14 years.

Mr. Volentine was a lifelong farmer and moved to Bond County in 1963 to a farm in Reno. He and his wife ran a fertilizer business from their farm for several years, then moved to Donnellson. He returned to active farming with his son, hauling grain and rock on the side.

His hobby was truck and tractor pulling, participating from high school through last summer at Butler. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Reno, where he served as an elder for many years.

Mr. Volentine had been a Gideon for several years and also participated in the BNI organization in Highland and was an ATA member in Mt. Olive.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Delma (Kelly) Frillman of Gillespie; son, Gerald (Alesia) Volentine if Sorento; grandsons, Zach and Dylan Frillman of Gillespie and Justin and Nathan Volentine of Sorento; two brothers, Udell (Lois) Volentine of Litchfield and Marvin (Linda) Volentine of Shipman; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
