Donald R. Fines, 78, of Morrisonville died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating.

Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery in Rosamond with military honors conducted by the VFW Post #4495, American Legion Post 73 and AMVETS Post #29 and also a United Mine Workers Service.

Mr. Fines was born on Oct. 15, 1936, in Taylorville, the son of the late Azel and Lelia (Arkebauer) Fines.  He married Charry Washburn on Dec. 19,1958, in Taylorville, and she preceded him in death on March 25, 2015, after 56 years of marriage.

He had retired from Mine #10 after 33 years of service as a repairman and had also retired after many years of farming.  Earlier in life he had worked for the R.C. Cola Company and Allis-Chalmers.

Mr. Fines graduated from Taylorville High School in 1954 and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale before serving his country in the United States Army, enlisting in September of 1955.

He enjoyed working outdoors, especially in his garden, reading and mushroom hunting. He had made numerous wooden birdhouses for his family. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fines is survived by his sons, John R. (Betty) Fines of Owaneco and David R. (Lisa) Fines of Taylorville; daughter, M. Christine (Robert) Rahar of Taylorville; grandchildren, Justin R. (Ashley) Rahar and Jarred J. (Mallory) Rahar, both of Taylorville, Jordan C. Rahar of Decatur, Elizabeth A. Fines and John David Fines, both of Taylorville; four great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald D. (Olga) Fines of Springfield; sister, Dorothea Robinson of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews.
