Donald Roger Schmollinger, 74, of Greenville died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at St. John's Hospital in St. Louis.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Darryl Bolen and Billy Jones officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Mr. Schmollinger was born on Nov. 25, 1940, in Breese, the son of the late Richard Burge and Elsie Virginia (Smith) Schmollinger. He married Lola Marie Post in 1962, and they divorced in 1985. He then married Cheryl Lee Kilmer Eaker on June 16, 1989, at the First Christian Church in Greenville, and she survives after 25 years of marriage.

He was raised on the Schmollinger farm north of Greenville near the Governor Bond Lake. He attended the Durley and Halls Grove one room schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1959. He then graduated from St. Louis Christian College in 1965.

In 1959, Mr. Schmollinger began working as a machinist for the Brass Mill at Olin. He later became the gun smith for Winchester at Olin and retired in 2009 after 50 years with the Olin Company. Through the years, he had pastored many Christian churches including Perryville, MO, Edwardsville, Tamalco, Old Ripley twice, and was currently the pastor at Woburn Church of Christ.

He enjoyed working with Mopar cars, fire arms, being with his family and enjoyed many sporting events with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Schmollinger was a member of the NRA, a past president of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, the Bond County Ministerial Alliance, the Machinist Labor Local #600 of East Alton and the Woburn Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Brian D. (Patti) Schmollinger of Highland;  three stepsons, Brian Eaker of Champaign, Bruce (Laura) Eaker of Auburn and Bradley (Casey) Eaker of East Peoria; ten grandchildren, Nicholas Schmollinger, Wesley Schmollinger, Adam Eaker, Taylor Ann Eaker, Cooper Eaker, Benjamin Eaker, Samantha Eaker, Kyle Eaker, Chase Eaker and Sara Eaker; four siblings, James D. (Donna) Schmollinger of Eugene, OR, Larry M. (Lois) Schmollinger of Mt. Grove, MO, Roy L. (Marcia) Schmollinger of Coffeen and Carla (Grady) Sitzler of Federal Way, WA; and sister in-law, Bonnie Schmollinger of Bethalto.

Besides his parents, Mr. Schmollinger was preceded in death by a daughter Lisa Ann Schmollinger on May 6, 1978; and brother, Gerald Schmollinger.
