Dottie Belle Hampton, 77 of Litchfield died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at 3:49 a.m. at her home surrounded by loved ones. 

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 17, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield with Brother Ed Diveley and Pastor John Magnusson co-officiating.  

Burial will take place in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. 

Mrs. Hampton was born on Oct. 27, 1939, on the family farm in Honey Point Township in Macoupin County, the daughter of the late Fred Carrico and Leita Maude (Ray) Thornton.  She married Paul Hampton on Sept. 6, 1964, at Barnett Christian Church in Litchfield, and he survives. 

She graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1957, and then went on to obtain her nursing degree from Memorial Medical School of Nursing in Springfield. She started her career as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in 1964 and also worked for St. Francis Home Health and was a CNA instructor for Capital Area Nursing in Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College. She retired from her nursing career in 2015. 

Mrs. Hampton enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the annual Hampton family vacations. She also enjoyed baking, and was a member of Barnett Christian Church serving as treasurer, Sunday school teacher and organist. She was also a member of the Litchfield Women’s Club and the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary. She made a difference in the lives of her patients, CNA students, friends and especially family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Steven (Pam) Hampton of St. Louis, Richard (Holly) Hampton of Edwardsville and Tom (Melissa) Hampton of Haslett, MI; daughter, Sara (James) Randle of Litchfield; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Kevin) Hampton, Jacob Hampton, Matthew Hampton, Abby Hampton, Maren Hampton, Birdie Randle, Ben Hampton, Cole Hampton and Ryan Hampton; and sister, Mary Ann Sanders of Edwardsville.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Hampton was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Thornton, and granddaughter, Madeline Ray Randle. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association.
