Dr. James L. Olroyd, 65, of Swansea, died on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at his residence after a year-long battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville.

Dr. Olroyd was born in Hillsboro on Monday, Feb. 3, 1947, the son of the late Vincent Dale and Mildred E. (Jurgena) Olroyd. He married Rebecca Y. Boone on Aug. 13, 1966, and she survives.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 1970, and with his doctorate of podiatric medicine in 1974.  

Dr. Olroyd did two years of surgical residency in St. Louis and was the first podiatrist on staff at Memorial Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had worked as a podiatrist in Belleville since 1978. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Sarah (husband Bobby) Schneebeli of Swansea; Pamela (husband Mike) May of Brea, CA; J. Douglas (wife Jill) Olroyd of Chesterfield, MO, and Dr. Emily R. Olroyd of Swansea; brother, Terry (wife Pat) Olroyd of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Zachary and Bailey Schneebeli, Claire and Tanner Olroyd and Jack and Patrick May; mother-in-law, Billie Boone of Hillsboro; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles (wife Mary) Boone of Rolla, MO, William (wife Maryann) Boone of Colorado Springs, CO, Vince (wife Vicki) Boone of Dekalb, Gwen (husband Bob) Frazier of Irving and Tammie (husband Ken) Christian of Harrisburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
