Ellen Niehaus, 81, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at 1:40 p.m. at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Center in Litchfield.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, beginning at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Fred Kraemer officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield, followed by a dinner at Zion Lutheran Church Auditorium.
Mrs. Niehaus was born on Sept. 16, 1935, in Litchfield, to the late Donald and Edna (Guthals) Miller. She married William R. Niehaus on June 23, 1956, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1993.
She graduated from Mount Olive High School with the class of 1953, and valued the lifelong friendships she built during her youth in Mount Olive.
A longtime resident of Litchfield, she enjoyed spending time with her local dinner group and card club.
Mrs. Niehaus proudly worked for the State of Illinois Job Service Division for 50 years, and was also involved in the family business, Niehaus Cycle Sales.
She is survived by three sons, Brad (Jan) Niehaus, Brian (Stacy) Niehaus and Scott (Liz) Niehaus; seven grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Erik) Gruenewald, Michael Niehaus, Matthew (Kate) Niehaus, Jackson Niehaus, Benjamin Niehaus, Natalie Niehaus and Wil Niehaus; one great-granddaughter, Ava Gruenewald; four brothers, Raymond (Mary) Miller, Norman (Liz) Miller, Nelson Miller and Paul (Marilyn) Miller; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Niehaus was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Miller; a sister-in-law, Carol Miller; as well as her father and mother-in-law, William (Matilda) Niehaus.
Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
