Gary "Heat" Albert Heather, 68, of Butler died at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. John Jaffry, pastor of Ware's Grove Church in Butler, will officiate with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Heather was born on Oct. 28, 1946, in Hillsboro, a son of the late Albert Leon and Evelyn Marie (May) Heather. A 1965 graduate of Hillsboro High School, he earned his associates degree in applied science from Wabash Valley College.

Mr. Heather was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan.

He married Karen Renken on Nov. 22, 1993, in Hillsboro. He worked as a coal miner at Viper Coal Mine in Elkhart and was a former village clerk of Taylor Springs.

He lived in Taylor Springs, Hillsboro, Springfield and rural Butler during his life.

Mr. Heather was a member of the Hillsboro Country Club and the Taylor Springs Volunteer Fire Department. He loved being "Papa" to his grandkids, golf, was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed basketball and baseball.

Mr. Heather is survived by two daughters, Casey (husband Roy) Mayfield of Springfield and Amy (husband Josh) Tucker of Jacksonville; and two grandchildren, Faye Louise Tucker and Joshua Triton Tucker, both of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Lee "Bo" Heather.
