Gary L. Fugate, 65, of Hillsboro died at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home with Father Ted Schelich, chaplain of St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, and the Rev. James Hayes, pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro, officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro with military rites accorded by V.F.W. Post #3912 of Litchfield.

Mr. Fugate was born in Hillsboro on Aug. 2, 1947, the son of Joseph Hile and Wanda Joyce (Reynolds) Fugate. He married Lynnette Gonet in Hillsboro on July 13, 1969, and she survives in Hillsboro.

A lifetime resident of Hillsboro, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a machinist at Richardson Manufacturing in Springfield and a member of V.F.W. Post #1306 and American Legion Post #436 out of Litchfield. He loved his grandchildren and woodworking, and was formerly a skydiver.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Fugate is survived by a son, Kelly (wife Julie) Fugate of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Kelly Lee Fugate of Hillsboro, Ryan (wife Ranota) Vandyke of Tampa, FL, and Jessica Lynn King of Marion; and sister, Carol (husband Robert) Manning of Frankfort.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and one in infancy.
