Gary W. Walters, 59, of Springfield died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at St. John’s Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the funeral home with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Walters was born on Oct. 25, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Billy and Dorothy (Kelly) Walters, Sr. He married Robyn Owens in 1977, and she preceded him in death.
He was a mechanic for City Water, Light and Power. He enjoyed dirt track racing and owned Walters Engines.
Mr. Walters is survived by four daughters, Tara (Darin) Hennings of Moweaqua, Rachel (Jeramie) Freer of Irving, Ashley (Tim) Montgomery of Springfield and Tara (Clay) Carmichael of Marissa; six grandchildren, Hali, Hannah, Andrew, Jillian, Dalton and Lauren; mother, Dorothy Walters of Springfield; two sisters, Barb (Jim) Langley of Cantrall and Trudy Burris of California; three brothers, Billy (Brenda) Walters and Kevin Walters, both of Springfield, and Roy (Debbie) Walters of Weaubleau, MO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his father; one grandchild, Cody; and one sister, Deborah Murray.
