Gary Dean Webb, 76, of Jerseyville died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, Heartland Baptist Church, 4500 Humbert Road, in Alton. 

Funeral services will follow visitation Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church with Dr. Jim Grant officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with military graveside rites conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post #492.

Mr. Webb was born in El Dorado, KS, on May 16, 1938, the son of the late Fred and Hazel (Harris) Webb. He married Wilberta Mae Geist in Ottawa, KS, on June 23, 1961, and she survives in Jerseyville.

He graduated from Toronto High School in Toronto, KS, in 1956 and attended Kansas State University. A member of the Kansas National Guard for eight years, he was the on-site chief of the Concrete, Soils and Materials Laboratory with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Carlyle Dam, Lake Shelbyville Dam, Clarence Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake and the Melvin Price Lock and Dam #26 Replacement. He retired in 1993 after 33 years of service.

Mr. Webb was a lifetime servant of Christ and shared his faith through his words and by example. He was a church leader at Heartland Baptist Church and served as an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher. He volunteered and served as an officer with the Jerseyville Meals on Wheels for over 30 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Douglas (Kara) Webb of Lafayette, IN, Bradley Webb of Carrollton, Jeffrey (Belinda) Webb of Montgomery, AL, and Deborah (Brian) Atkins of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Katarina, Kameron, Blaikley, Tiffany, Tatyana, Mikal, Elijah, Isaiah, Chloe and Josiah; brother, Gordon (Marilyn) Webb of Hannibal, MO; and sister-in-law, Naoma (Don) Lowe of Florence, SC.

Besides his parents, Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his brother, Gale Webb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Baptist Church in Alton.
