Gary Lee Zenner, Sr., 75, of Litchfield died at 4:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield with Masonic rites exemplified at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Shrader, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, officiating.

Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Zenner was born in Litchfield on June 13, 1937, the son of the late Henry Herman and Beulah Irene (Culp) Zenner. He married Shirley Ann Thacker at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield on June 10, 1956, and she survives.

A veteran of the United States Army National Guard, he graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1955 and obtained his bachelor degree from the University of New York. He then attended and graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

Mr. Zenner worked as a technician and fiscal officer for the Office of United States Property from 1957 to 1988, retiring in the grade of colonel. 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Litchfield; Litchfield Boat and Ski Club where he served as president for two terms; Litchfield Lodge #236 AF and AM where he served as worshipful master, secretary and treasurer; Lavonne Chapter No. 55 OES where he served as worthy patron; St. Omer Commandry No. 30 Knights Templar where he served as eminent commander; Macoupin and Montgomery County Shrine Club; Montgomery County Republican Party and Illinois Republican Party sustaining member; Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634; American Legion Post #436; GOP Evening Club in Montgomery County; Hillsboro Chapter 197 Royal Arch Masons; Carrollton Council No 48 Royal and Select Masters where he served as thrice illustrious master and secretary; National Guard Association out of Washington, D.C. ; and Illinois National Guard.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Zenner is survived by two sons, Gary L. (wife Cathy) Zenner, Jr. of Kiefer, OK, and Kurt A. (wife Janice) Zenner of Litchfield; brother, H. Robert (wife Carol) Zenner of Chicago; seven granddaughters, Elizabeth (husband Jacob) Brandt, Amanda (husband Seth) Weber, Jessica Zenner, Tiffany Zenner, Brandy (husband Sonthana) Thongsithavong, Bethanie Zenner and Chelsea Lowe; two stepgrandchildren, Brandi and Chad Satterlee; 11 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Steve (wife Mary) Lowe of Litchfield; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer (husband Roger) Anderson of Atwater.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David P. Zenner; two daughters, Diane M. Zenner in infancy and Linda S. Lowe; and one brother, William W. Zenner.
