Glen F. Hobbie, 77, of Ramsey, died at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia. Pastor Peter Kolb and Pastor Jerry Bagwell will officiate with interment at 1:30 p.m. at Witt Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at the church and also from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hobbie was born on April 24, 1936, in Witt, a son of the late Herman and Anna (Renken) Hobbie. He married Sharon Lee on Nov. 28, 1959, in Witt, and she survives.

Mr. Hobbie was a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs from 1957-1964 and for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1964. After retiring from the major leagues, he was a supervisor for the Roller Derby Association in Litchfield.

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.

Along with his wife, Mr. Hobbie is survived by a son, Glen K. (wife Debbie) Hobbie of Ramsey; a daughter, Linda (husband Jim) Rhoads of Litchfield; three brothers, David (wife Carol) Hobbie of Hillsboro, Roy Hobbie of Godfrey, and Kenneth (wife Delores) Hobbie of Mt. Zion; a sister, Betty Hobbie of Hillsboro; and four grandchildren, Bryan Hobbie, Eric Hobbie (fiancee Kelsey Johnson), Laura Hobbie and Anthony Rhoads.

Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church youth groups or the American Cancer Society.
