Harold James Payad, 88, of Staunton died Monday, June 6, 2016, at The Glenwood in Staunton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral Mass will be said Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton with the Rev. George Radosevich officiating. Cremation will follow the service. 

Mr. Payad was born on Feb. 27, 1928, in Cook County, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Payad. He married Goldie McCulley on Aug. 1, 1965, in Hernando, MS, and she preceded him in death 17 years later. He then married Doris Johnson on Feb. 4, 1984, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton, and she survives in Staunton.

He was the owner/operator of Payad Radio and TV Service in Staunton for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 working as a radio teletype technician in Japan. He attended St. Simon & Jude Grade School in Gillespie and Staunton High School, graduating in 1945.

Mr. Payad studied radio and television at Coyne Electric in Chicago, graduating in 1948. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton and a member of the Staunton Masonic Lodge #177 AF & AM since 1947, serving as master in 1959, 2004, 2009 and 2015. He was also a member of Scottish Rites 32nd degree Masons of Belleville and the Ansar Shriners of Springfield.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one niece, Marlene (Harold) Wright of Denton, TX; one cousin, Jimmie Lee Osborne of Gillespie; five stepdaughters, Ina (Merle) Randle of Staunton, Linda Neylon of Chicago, Barbara (Greg) Morell of Hillsboro, Dorothy (George) Parides of Paradise Valley, AZ, and Elizabeth (Daniel) Sherfy of Lebanon, TN; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grandnephews and great-grandnephews.

Besides his parents and his first wife, Mr. Payad was preceded in death by one stepson, Roger Johnson, and one brother, George M. Payad.
