Hasting Joseph Moroney, 85

Hasting Joseph Moroney, 85, of Decatur, but a native of Taylor Springs, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2016, at 1:22 p.m. in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.

Funeral services will be this Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. in the Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Father Dan Willenborg will officiate, and burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro. Visitation will begin at noon at the funeral home on Saturday, the day of services.

Mr. Moroney was born in Hillsboro on March 9, 1931, to William H. and Mabel (Durbin) Moroney. He moved to Decatur in 1955 after graduating from Hillsboro High in 1950.

He married Emerald Jeannette Chumley on July 31, 1954, in St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro; she preceded him in death on May 3, 2011.

His parents; three brothers, William Maroney, Jr., Kenneth Moroney and Thomas F. Maroney; and one sister in infancy, Nina Moroney, also preceded  him.

He is survived by four sons, Steven (wife Cathy) Moroney of Mt. Zion, Alan (wife Teri) Moroney of Champaign, Dan (wife Connie) Moroney of Macon and Bob (significant other Esther) Moroney of Decatur; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Moroney; and three sisters, Ida Menghini, Lela Pesko and Kay (husband Harvey) Payne, all of Taylor Springs.

His career was as a switchman for Norfolk Western Railroad. He also was a volunteer for Catholic Charities, the St. James Catholic Church and St. Mary's Hospital. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, pitching horseshoes and restoring antique wood.

The family suggests Decatur Cancer Care Specialists as the preferred memorial.
