James and Rosalyn DeRight

James and Rosalyn DeRight, with local ties but long-time Springfield residents, both died in early April and were buried in Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA, on Saturday, April 21, 2016.

Mr. DeRight was born on May 6, 1927, in Panama to Peter and Justine (Grill) DeRight. He attended Panama High School, Hillsboro High School and Springfield College of Illinois. He died on Saturday, April 9, 2016, when he was 88 and was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances and Kathryn; and one brother, Albert.

Mrs. DeRight was born on July 8, 1926, in Mt. Olive to Andrew and Marjorie (Hill) Kosalko. She was a graduate of Springfield High. She died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the age of 89, and she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Betty Ann; and a brother, Andrew Kosalko, Jr.

Mr. DeRight was a Navy Seabee during World War II and served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Rendova in 1951 and 1952. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

After working for Metropolitan Life for 13 years, he worked for and retired from Horace Mann Educators Insurance Company.

Mrs. DeRight worked for the State of Illinois.

They were married on May 8, 1948 in Springfield and lived there for over 60 years before moving to California in April of 2015 to be near their daughters, Linda DeRight of Phoenix, AZ, and Kay DeRight of Irvine, CA, and their two granddaughters, Julia and Lindsay DeRight Goldasich.
