James R. Sturgeon, 89, of Springfield but formerly of Hillsboro died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, in the Capital Care Center, Springfield.

No services are planned; final arrangements were handled for the family by the Staab Funeral Home.

Mr. Sturgeon was born on Sept. 17, 1925, in Hillsboro to Earl and Eva (File) Sturgeon. He married Olga K. Frkovich on Oct. 20, 1946, and she survives.

Also survivng are two sons, J. Roger (Marie) Sturgeon of Springfield and Steven F. Sturgeon of Woodson; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Dorcas (Robert) Fergusson of Springfield and Mary L. Vawter of Nebraska; two brothers, Richard A. (Barbara) Sturgeon of Urbana and C. Eugene (Catherine) Sturgeon of Abingdon, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of the Hickory Hills Chapter of the Audubon Society in Hillsboro and of the Lions Club.

He retired on Dec. 31, 1987, as president, trust officer, and director of the Wemple State Bank in Waverly.
