Jerry W. Bandy, 69, of Highland died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Faith Care Center in Highland with his family by his side.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 23, at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland with the Rev. Dr. Sheldon Culver, conference minister at the United Church of Christ, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date.

Mr. Bandy was born at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis on Jan. 21, 1945, the son of the late Gerald L. and Vada H. (Baugher) Bandy. He married Brenda Coss at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield on Sept. 9, 1967, and she survives in Highland.

He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1963 and loved photography, astronomy and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved to take fishing and rock hunting. He enjoyed riding his bike and taking walks and looked forward to vacations with his family.  He loved to sketch and paint and, on occasion, could be a jokester.

Mr. Bandy worked for Boeing for more than 25 years, retiring as a design engineer. He loved his job and the people he worked with.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Tim) Rusteberg of Highland; two granddaughters, Marisa and Emma Rusteberg; two sisters, Edna M. (Ronald) Sample of Sorento and Joyce E. (Larry) Baker of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
