John A. Pearson, 81

John Albert Pearson, 81, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab Center in Taylor Springs. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Ware's Grove Cemetery in Butler. 

Mr. Pearson was born on June 1, 1935, in St. Louis. He married Janice Young in 1955, and she survives. 

He grew up in Butler and graduated from Hillsboro High School in  1953. He went on to attend Shurtliff College in Alton,  where he played football. 

Mr. Pearson and his wife moved to Hillsboro and built a log home on Walshville Trail in 1990. 

During his career, Mr. Pearson served in the U.S. Army Reserve until his discharge in 1963 in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He went on to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 30 years as an auditor and office manager. 

After he retired at the age of 50, he organized Pearson Inventory Services and traveled with his son from Chicago to Florida each month. He also opened a woodworking shop on Tilson Place to build, repair and refinish furniture, and retired from that in 2015. 

Mr. Pearson was a 50 year member of the Masons and Moose Club.

He will be remembered as a fisherman, woodworker, collector and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joan (husband Russell) Keith of Little Elm, TX, and Jean Pearson also of Little Elm, TX; a son, James Pearson of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Sabrina (husband Jason) Kouns, Christopher (wife Kelley) Volpone, Mia Pearson, Sierra Pierson and Blakely Jones Pearson; as well as one great-granchild, Lexi Kouns.
