John Warren Dowdy, 78, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 at 2:45 a.m. at Hillsboro Health Care and Rehab.
Cremation rites were accorded. There will be no services at this time.
Mr. Dowdy was born on Oct. 7, 1938, in Galatia, to the late Loren and Alberta (Sharp) Dowdy. He married Fern "Lucille" Hall on Aug. 18, 1956, in Kankakee, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2012.
During his career, he worked as a coalminer.
Mr. Dowdy lived in Galatia, Thompsonville, Johnston City, Coffeen, Tamaroa and Harlingen, TX.
He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.
Mr. Dowdy is survived by three children, Charles Edward (Wanda) Dowdy of Coffeen, David Dewayne (Melissa) Dowdy of Irving and Brenda (Ron) Edwards of Witt; grandchildren, Nicholas E. (Nicole) Dowdy, Kiana L. Dowdy, Jacob W. Dowdy, Nicole (Seth) Mooney and Courtney (James) Dowdy; great-grandchildren, Jace Dowdy, Wyatt Mooney, Walker Mooney, Willow Mooney and Bella Dowdy; as well as a sister, Betty (Richard) Russell of Coulterville.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Dowdy.
