Joseph J. Myerscough, 93, of Springfield died late Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Regency Nursing Care.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Bisch Funeral Home West in Springfield. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Grant officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield where military honors will be performed by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.

Mr. Myerscough was born on Jan. 2, 1922, in Taylorville, the oldest of nine children of the late Joseph and Elenora (Young) Myerscough. He married Dorothy Mudd in Maxwell, KY, on Oct. 30, 1939, and she preceded him in death in 2014 after 74 years of marriage.

He went to work at a very young age and worked as an engineer for many years on the Chicago & Illinois Midland Railroad (C&IM), retiring in 1986. He also worked and farmed some land just north of Springfield.

Mr. Myerscough proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, professional bull riding and working outside in his yard.

He is survived by his children, Larry (Marilyn) Myerscough of Purcell, OK, and Judy Bryan of Springfield; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Merle Myerscough of Charleston and Marion "Mike" Myerscough of Springfield; sisters, Margaret Ann Tazioli of Highland Park,  Theresa Wiseman of Taylorville and Carol Huber of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Myerscough was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Bryan; brothers, Gerald and Duane Myerscough; and a sister, Mary Ellen Constantin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
