Joseph Puccetti, 84, of Chatham, formerly of Taylorville, Witt and Tovey, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield with his family by his side.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4 in Chatham. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Dennis Kollross officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded before services by Cremation Services of Central Illinois in Chatham.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with the Interveterans’ Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense conducting military honors.

Mr. Puccetti was born on Nov. 30, 1930, in Tovey, the son of the late Leo and Maria (Del Magro) Puccetti. He married Claudine Gherardi on June 25, 1955, and she survives in Chatham after 60 years of marriage.

He was an Army veteran, serving his country during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union and worked as a miner and supervisor for several mines until he retired in 1990. He and his wife were members of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Chatham.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Puccetti is survived by his daughter, Crystal Stevens of Chatham; grandchildren, Airman 1C Drew Stevens of Travis AFB, CA, and Claire Lowe of Jacksonville; brother, Albert (Margaret) Puccetti of Tovey; sister, Anita Lucas of Kincaid; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Geno.
