LaVonne Phillips, 91, of St. Louis, formerly of Mt. Olive, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at 4:35 a.m. at Delmar Gardens South in St. Louis.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive with the Rev. Tommy Brewer officiating. Burial was in Union Miners Cemetery in Mt. Olive.

She was born on Dec. 11, 1923, in Nokomis, the daughter of the late William Haddow, Sr. and Katherine (Hennings) Haddow. She married Fred Phillips in 1956 in St. Louis, and they later divorced.

Ms. Phillips attended Nokomis and Mt. Olive grade schools and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1941. After high school she graduated from Rubicam Business College in St. Louis.

She was a former member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Mt. Olive, where she was active with the Methodist youth group. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis as a clerk for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

Ms. Phillip's first employment was a secretary for Rice-Stix in St. Louis. Upon retirement she tutored students. She loved traveling and theatre and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

She is survived by two nieces, Darlene Boggio Hendrickson of Kirkwood, MO, and JoAnn (Albert) Bloch of Dardene Prarie, MO; and two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Besides her parents, Ms. Phillips was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Smith, Bernice Dhesse and Viola Boggio; and one brother, William Haddow, Jr.
