Lenny Vance Kurfiss, Sr., 76, of rural Hillsboro died in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.

Funeral services for Mr. Kurfiss are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. in the Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Hough's.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1939,  in Springfield to the late Leonard C. and Lola H. (Jones) Kurfiss.

A 1957 graduate of Hillsboro High, he was a lifelong farmer. For many years he drove a school bus for Hillsboro School District #3; he also served as transportation director for many years. In addition, he was road commissioner for Hillsboro Township for over 20 years. He was a past member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and of Hillsboro Moose.

He and Carol Joyce Bandy were married on Oct. 8, 1961; she preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2010. His parents and one son, Lenny Kurfiss, Jr., (1999) also preceded him in death.

Mr. Kurfiss is survived by one daughter, Lea Pennington of Kingston; two sons, Larry and Lynn Kurfiss of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Waveland Cemetery in Hillsboro.
