Lorman Maynard Mansholt, 87, of Litchfield died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at his home.  

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Donald Langhoff, former minister of the church, officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.  

Mr. Mansholt was born on May 9, 1927, in Bunker Hill, the  son of the late Norman and Esther (Marth) Mansholt. He married Dorothy Louise Klekamp on Sept. 18, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and she survives in Litchfield after 58 years of marriage.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as SSG of the 45th Tank Division from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War. He and his wife purchased 66 Motel Court in 1963. They later owned and operated The Gardens Restaurant and Motel and Mansholt Farms in Litchfield.

Mr. Mansholt was a member of the Litchfield Rotary Club;  Litchfield Chamber of Commerce, where he was named Businessman of the Year; was a district representative for Best Western International; and a member of Kniery-Knagg Post 436 of the American Legion and Mid-State Antique Collectors' Club.

He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield, where he served as an elder and property chairman. He also participated in the Men’s Club and served on the Educational Building Committee.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mansholt is survived by two  daughters, Jane (Jim) Martin and Nancy Hyam, both of Litchfield; one brother, Orville (Carol) Mansholt of Bunker Hill; two sisters, Verda Bussmann of Gillespie and Iona (Wilbur) Goebel of Prairietown; five grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Dougherty of Litchfield, Erik (Meghan) Hyam of Chicago, Renee (John) Wynn of Litchfield, Erin (Dennis) Convy of St. Charles, MO, and Stephanie (John) Clayton of Litchfield; nine great-grandchildren, Megan, Nolan and Nathan Dougherty, Abby (Eric) Barcum, Kelly and Andrew Bergman, Nicholas Farrar and Eden and Reid Kresko; and one great-great-granddaughter, Avery Barcum.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Roger.

The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran School or Litchfield Veterans' Memorial Garden Fund.
