Mabel Elizabeth Winstead, 90, of Litchfield, died at 8:03 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015, in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The Rev. Dave Ziegenbein, pastor of Pleasant Hill Christian Church in rural Raymond, and the Rev. Lynn Laughlin of Lincoln will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.  

Mrs. Winstead was born on Jan. 6, 1925, in Sangamon County, a daughter of the late Don Hilton and Lydia Elizabeth (Snyder) Snyder.  In 1947, her family moved to rural Raymond where she became a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church.

She married Virgil Lee Winstead on Dec. 10, 1950, and they made their home in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1987.

Mrs. Winstead worked for the Litchfield School District as a cook at J.D. Colt School for 24 years.  After retiring, she became a homemaker and an active member of the Litchfield Senior Citizens. A loving wife and mother, she loved her family and visiting with her friends. She enjoyed traveling and watching Cardinal games and her finches.

Mrs. Winstead is survived by a son, William (Beverly) Winstead of Walshville; a brother, Don (Marilyn) Snyder of Litchfield; a sister, Linda (Ron) Satterlee of Camp Verde, AZ; a grandson, Michael (Lyndsy) Winstead of Farmersville; three granddaughters, Michele Winstead (fiancé Scott Bader) of Litchfield, Melinda (Joe) Estrada of Hamel and Katrina (Mike) Lancaster of Warson Woods, MO; six great-grandsons, Cale, Gavin and Keaton Winstead, Isiah Estrada, and Ian and Evan Lancaster; four stepgrandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) Niemann, Brian (Penny) Niemann, Dawn (Jeff) Wheat and Mary Estrada; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren, Courtney (Tory) Fritchley, Caleb and Elizabeth Niemann, Hannah and Hunter Niemann, Jeffery, Amber and Paige Wheat, Kayla Rosales, Ava Cortez and David Josiah Cortez; and several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Niemann; a son-in-law, Ray Niemann; a granddaughter, Melissa Ann Winstead; four brothers, Eugene, William, Ray and Myron; and a sister, Jane Lowrey.

The family suggests memorials to Litchfield Food Pantry or St. Francis Hospital Diabetic Outreach Program.
