Margaret Heyen, 91

Margaret Marie Heyen, 91, of Litchfield and Mt. Olive, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at 7:30 a.m. at Heritage Health of Litchfield. 

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 25, at Becker and  Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive with the Rev. Christine Erdmann officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery.

Mrs. Heyen was born on Aug. 20, 1925, in Mt. Olive, the daughter of the late Frederick William and Margaret (Sies) Eickmeyer, Sr. She married Vernon Clayton "Cotton" Heyen on May 8, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2008.

She attended Mt. Olive schools, was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, where she was baptized Sept. 13, 1925, and confirmed April 21, 1939, by the Rev. Hofhenke.

Mrs. Heyen was also a Sunday School teacher and a coordinator for Thrivent/Lutheran Brotherhood for several years. She retired from Echlin in Litchfield.

In addition, she was a member of the Mt. Olive VFW Auxiliary #5790, a hospice volunteer and well known for baking and decorating amazing wedding and all occasion cakes. 

Mrs. Heyen is survived by two sons, Gary (Karen) Heyen of Litchfield and John (Lisa) Heyen of Gillespie; six grandchildren, Jeff (Heidi) Heyen of Litchfield, Brad Heyen (companion Magen Traveous) of Maplewood, MO, Julie Heyen of Chesterfield, MO, Wendy Jo (Matt) Goldman of Litchfield and Logan Heyen and Derek Heyen, both of Gillespie; four great-grandchildren, Riley and Caleb Heyen and Olivia and Leah Goldman, all of Litchfield; brother, Art Eickmeyer of Livingston; brother-in-law, Don Heyen of Sebring, FL; sisters-in-law, Nancy Eickmeyer of Mt. Olive, Gloria Eickmeyer of Kirkwood, MO, Jean Ann Heyen of Springfield, Faye Heyen of Sebring, FL, Rita Heyen of Litchfield and Ruth Roach of Pekin; and numerous nieces and nephews 

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Harry, Walter, Everette, Louis, Norman, Raymond and two-year-old Frederick William Eickmeyer, Jr.; and three sisters, Viola Pauge, Evelyn Fritzsche and Selma Fritzsche.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
