Martha L. Barnes, 89, of Pawnee died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Cremation rites were accorded.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Chuck Kurfman officiating. 

Bramley Funeral Home in Divernon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barnes was born on Feb. 22, 1926, in Mattoon, the daughter of Noah and Ruth (Jennings) Bettis. She married Richard “Dick” Barnes in 1947, and he preceded her in death in 2002. 

She graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and The Cadet Nurse Corp. She was a night supervisor at Memorial Hospital for several years, after which she worked for private practice physicians in the Springfield area.

As an industrial nurse, Mrs. Barnes worked for CIPS at various power stations for 11 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband spent their winter months on South Padre Island, TX. 

She is survived by three children, Paula (Phil) Clarke of Farmersville, Bonnie (Gregg) White of Kerrville, TX, and Tom (Shirley) Barnes of Divernon; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
