Mary Lou Hughes, 87, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at 7:01 p.m. at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with her nephew, Pastor Paul Hahn, and the Rev. Bill Baughman of Plainview Baptist Church co-officiating. Cremation will take place after the services. Graveside committal services will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at Crabtree Cemetery in rural Litchfield.

Mrs. Hughes was born on Aug. 11, 1930, in Granite City, to Charles and Evelyn (Deshaiser) Lakin. She married Henry Allan Hughes.

She graduated from Carrollton High School. She was a member of Walshville Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Amvets Post #16 Ladies Auxiliary in Litchfield.

Mrs. Hughes also served on the Montgomery County Board for several years as a representative of Walshville Township.

While residing in Walshville, she farmed and was a homemaker for many years. She also worked as a waitress at the Dutch Mill and The Gardens Motel and Restaurant in Litchfield, and retired in 2000.

She enjoyed dancing, dining out and loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her six daughters, Marilyn Jane Maxwell of Bloomington, IN, Margaret Jean (Wayne) Fenton of Walshville, Myrna Joy (Ricky) McDonald of Walshville, Melody Jo (Larry) Horn of Litchfield, Marla Jan (Bill) Beckham of Litchfield and Marcella June Brandt of Walshville; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Lakin of White Hall and Lyndal Lakin of Berdan; and two sisters, Janet Barlow of Berdan and Joyce Clevenger of White Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren; seven brothers, Randal in infancy, Raymond, Glen, Neil, Leon, Royal in infancy and Terry Lakin; and two sisters, Twyla Painter and Norma Mohn.
