Mary Lou Jenkins, 88, of Olney died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Lance Jenkins, grandson of Mrs. Jenkins, officiating.

Burial will be at Dundas Cemetery in Dundas.

Mrs. Jenkins was born on Jan.  1, 1927, in Defiance, OH, the daughter of the late Rev. Carey and Della F. (Bullock) Christy. She married Samuel Jenkins on Feb. 12, 1947, at West Main Congregational Christian Church in Olney, and he survives in Olney.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) until retirement. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Olney, where she was the pianist and organist.

Mrs. Jenkins enjoyed making stuffed white squirrels, quilting, writing music and poems, crocheting and reading books, especially the Bible. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Robert Dale (wife Jane) Jenkins of Andover, KS, Stephen Joshua (wife Krista) Jenkins of Wichita, KS, Donald Ellis (wife Susan) Jenkins of Andover, KS, and Paul Stanley (wife Jan) Jenkins of Litchfield; four daughters, Margaret Kathleen Upton of Fort Worth, TX, Shirley Kay Jenkins of Olney, Pamela Jean (husband Roberto) Maximo of Acworth, GA, and Janice Renee (husband Stanley) Gill  of Bedford, TX; 15 grandchildren, including Leah (husband Eric) Kerwood of Sedalia, MO, David (wife Kourtney) Jenkins of Hillsboro and Nathan Jenkins of Litchfield; 26 great-grandchildren; special family friends, Otis and Barbara Chaplin and Paul and Phyllis Ulrich; and caregiver, Samantha Blakney.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion, Robert and Paul Christy; and sister, Dorothy Sparks.

Memorials may be made to Richland County Senior Citizens Center or Master’s Hands in memory of Mrs. Jenkins.
