Phillip E. Chesser, 78, of Hillsboro died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at White Hall Nursing and Rehab in White Hall.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hough and  Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fr. James Neuman officiating.

Burial will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro with full military rites by VFW Post 1306 of Taylor Springs and American Legion Post 425 Irving.

Mr. Chesser was born on Dec. 4, 1936, in Hillsboro, the son of the late Clyde and Beulah (Hart) Chesser. He married Margaret Jagodizinski on Oct. 12, 1957, and she survives.

A 1955 graduate of Hillsboro High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served four years before enlisting in the National Guard and Army Reserves.

Mr. Chesser was a lifelong master carpenter and retired from the Coffeen Power Plant station after 25 years as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro Knights of Columbus and past member of the Hillsboro JC’s.

He was an avid bowler and loved spending time with his family and especially with his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Mr. Chesser is survived by two daughters, Victoria (husband Mike) Greenwood of Coffeen and Patricia (husband Rex) Pace of Paris, TN; granddaughter, April (husband Chris) Dowland of Greenfield, who they raised for eight years; six grandchildren, Brandon Greenwood of Coffeen, Adam (wife Tami) White of Greenfield, April (husband Chris) Dowland of Greenfield, Connor Hughes of Paris, TN, Ricky (wife Sarah) Hughes of Springfield, McKenzie Hughes of Springfield and Allen Pace of Pocahontas; six great-grandchildren, Paige, Dom and Zak White of Greenfield and Jesse, Jayden and Jamie Dowland of Greenfield; three brothers, Rodger (wife Margie), Clyde “Tub” (wife Jane) and Richard (Cathy) Chesser, all of Hillsboro; one sister-in-law. Karen Chesser of Panama; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Chesser.

Memorials may be left to the Alzheimer’s Association, INAD for Grace Herschelman or the donor’s choice.
