Mr. Richard Smith, 91, of Witt, formerly of Tovey, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, in his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith are scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, at the Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid. The Rev. Joy Caschetta will officiate, with burial in Bethel Cemetery, rural Edinburg. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. the day of the funeral.

He was born in Tovey on Aug. 14, 1923, the son of Herman Warry and Jessie (Sterner) Smith. He and Frances Belle White were married on July 23, 1948, in Palmer; she preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2014, after they celebrated 66 years as a couple.

His parents; four brothers, Ed, Cliff, Orville, and Robert Smith; and three sisters, Mariam Hunt and Lillian and Pearl Smith also preceded him.

He is survived by two daughters, Pastor Sue Bryce and Sherry Terneus, both of Witt; four grandchildren, Rick (Nedra) Bryce of Irving, Tara (Brian) Brown of Heyworth, and Stacy and Scott Terneus of Decatur; one great-grandaughter, Emily Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

A past member of the Tovey United Methodist Church, he formerly owned Smith Neon Signs and Services in Hillsboro. He also drove a Pepsi truck and had worked in the ammunition plant in Illiopolis. He and his wife managed a campground for a time in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and he loved camping, motorcyling, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He retired in 1972 afer 23 years as a chief electrician for Freeman Coal Mine #8.
