Richard Smith, 73, of Nokomis, died at 5:52 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at his residence. 

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be held in St. Barbara Cemetery in Witt with military graveside honors. 

Mr. Smith was born on Aug. 6, 1943 in Zenobia, the son of Clifford and Winnie Louise (Babbs) Smith. He married Martha Mines and they later divorced. He then married Judith K. Cabello on Dec. 22, 1995 in Hillsboro and she survives.

He was a retired Union Laborer from Local 159 in Decatur, a member of the Laborers Local 159 International Union, Nokomis Sportsman's Club and St. Louis Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife in Nokomis, he is survived by sons Todd (Jodi) Mines of Galesburg, Scott (Penny) Smith of Woodlawn, and Joe (Diane) Cobello of Irving; daughters Lynn Mines Dodge of Chillicothe, Tammy (Jason) Roberts of Ramsey; grandchildren Ashlie, Shannon, Nathan, Amanda, Jacob, Jalen, Mason, Ethan, Kirsten, Collin and Matthew; great-grandchildren Landon and Hunter; brothers James (Betty) Smith of Oconee, Wendell (Jane) Smith of Ohlman, Carl (Darline) Smith of Ogden, UT, Robert (Paula) Smith of Pana; sisters Pam (Robert) Thull of Independence, MO, Sharon (Rex) Warren of Petersburg; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Smith, and a sister, Patricia.
