Roland A. Rudis, 84, of Hillsboro, died on Dec. 15, 2016, at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rudis was born on March 15, 1932, in Collinsville, to the late Simon and Delores (Herron) Rudis. He married Louise Smith on Oct. 20, 1951, and she survives.

During his career, he worked for Illinois Department of Corrections as an officer in both Statesville and Graham Correctional Centers. 

As a member of the AFSCME, he enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and also enjoyed golfing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Rudis is survived by three daughters, Susan (Steve) Romeo of Hillsboro, Rebecca Rudis of Dupo and Kelly Robinson of Taylor Springs; two sons, Roland Mark (Eliana) Rudis of Portage Des Sioux, MO and Arthur (Kerri) Rudis of Irving; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Bruce Rudis of Collinsville and his dog "Buddy".

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Denise Clark; as well as three brothers, Ed Rudis, Charlie Rudis and Franklin Rudis.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Paws Care.
