Sarah Kathleen Murphy, 54, of Springfield, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 8:51 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro with the Very Rev. James L. Neuman, VF, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, officiating.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Coffeen.

Ms. Murphy was born in Hillsboro on Sept. 14, 1961, the daughter of Patrick Dane and Marion Connie (Mizera) Murphy.

She lived in Hillsboro, Edwardsville and Springfield during her lifetime. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1979 and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 1983.

Ms. Murphy was a histology technician at St. John's Hospital in Springfield and also worked at Passavant Hospital in Springfield. She was a research assistant for Alzheimer's at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.

She was a member of St. Al's Church in Springfield. She was an avid Cardinals fan, loved animals and enjoyed watching Illini sports and football.

Ms. Murphy is survived by her mother of Hillsboro; lifelong friend, Nancy Brown; siblings, Melissa (husband Dick) Eskew and Jenny Murphy, both of Hillsboro, Dane (wife Vicky) Murphy, Michael (wife Cindy) Murphy and Ted Murphy, all of Taylor Springs; and animals, dog Sassy B and cats Ashley, Zoey, Alvin, Missy Moo (favorite cat) and Tessa.

She was preceded in death by her father on Aug. 17, 2008.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League.
