Theresa Ann Cunnings, 89, of Memphis, MI, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, with family by her side. 

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Memphis, MI. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Kammeraad-Merchant Funeral Home in Memphis, MI, and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.

Private family burial will be in Christian Memorial Cemetery in Peck, MI.

Mrs. Cunnings was born on Sept. 7, 1927, in Litchfield, the daughter of the late William and Anna Heise. She married Robert C. Cunnings on April 23, 1955, in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death in September of 2014. 

She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Litchfield in 1941, as well as Litchfield High School in 1945. She was an active member of Holy Family Parish in Memphis, MI, where she was a member of the Altar Society.

Mrs. Cunnings was a R.N. graduate of St. John's School of Nursing Education class of 1948 in Springfield. She loved her career and was a cadet nurse during WWII. In her spare time, she  loved to read. 

She is survived by her sons, Robert (Tara), Stephen (Ann Marie), Joseph (Laurie) and John (Kim); daughters, Renee' Cunnings, Amy (Robert) Keenan, Ruth Cunnings, Faith (Nicholas) Batta and Ann (Stephen) Finley; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, James, George, David and Thomas Heise; and two sisters, Fidelis Biebel and Mary Jo Heise.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Cunnings was preceded in death by her son, Peter; brothers, John, Phil and WM Heise; and sisters, Margaret and Agnes Heise.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlin, SD, or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, MI.
