Theresa June Murphy, 85, of Girard died Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2015, at Carlinville Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,745 West Center in Girard, with the Rev. Angel Sierra officiating. A meal will follow at St. Patrick's hall.
Private burial will take place at St. Raymond Cemetery in Raymond. Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Murphy was born on June 2, 1929, in Litchfield, the daughter of the late Homer and Pauline (Pass) Stephenson. She married Roy T. Murphy in Litchfield on Oct. 31, 1953, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1985.
A 1947 graduate of Litchfield High School, she worked as a retail clerk for Merle Norman Cosmetics and Virden Department Store, retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Murphy enjoyed sewing, reading and her grandchildren. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Murphysboro basketball fan.
She is survived by her five sons, Mark (Sandy) Murphy, Greg (Shawn) Murphy and Gary (Candy) Murphy, all of Girard, Brad (Shannon) Murphy of Carlinville and Daryl (Diana) Murphy of Murphysboro; three daughters, Michelle Smith of Girard, Camille (Brian) Johnson of Winterville, NC, and Janelle Murphy of Chatham; grandchildren, Morgan, Luke and Matt Murphy, Brynne Scott, Taylor Murphy, Wes and Wade Smith, Devon and Kelsey Murphy, Brice and Dylan Johnson, Melanie and Madeline Murphy and Daryl Murphy II; four brothers, Charles "Bub" Stephenson of Princeville, Paul (Eva) Stephenson of Hoyleton, Bill (Sharon) Stephenson of Clinton and Mike Stephenson of Litchfield; sister, Helen Schuetze of Carlinville; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and John Stephenson.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
