Vernita Wolters, 97, of Pana died Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 11, at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana with Pastor Stephen Palmer officiating.

Burial was in Rosemond Grove Cemetery in Rosamond.

Ms. Wolters was born on May 27, 1917, at home in Greenwood Township, Christian County, the daughter of Robert W. and Ida (Arkebauer) Wolters.

She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Fairview United Methodist Church, both in rural Nokomis. In her youth, she attended Sassafras School and was a member of 4-H and Christian County Rural Youth.

Ms. Wolters' employment included the former Illinois Glove Factory in Pana, Montgomery Ward and the Illinois Department of Revenue in Springfield. She was also a caregiver for her parents during their extended illnesses.

She had been a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Pana and active in the United Methodist Women. She was also active in the Red Hats Society, Pana Area Senior Citizens and enjoyed cooking. She was a resident of Hickory Estates of Pana during her later years.

Ms. Wolters is survived by her brother, Merle Wolters of Pana; nieces, Joyce M. (husband Bob) Placek of Athens, GA, and Alice E. (husband Michael) Boliek of Decatur; nephew, Donald R. (wife Tammy) Wolters of Springfield; five great-nieces and nephews, Roberta Wilson, Stephanie Wood, Nicole McClanahan, Rustin Boliek and Nathan Wolters; and six great-great nieces and nephews, Cora Wilson, Preston Wilson, Lydia Wood, Madeleine Wood, Ian McClanahan and Corinne McClanahan.
