Vernus Veryl Meier, 86, of Litchfield, died Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 7:15 p.m. at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care Center.

A private family graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. The Rev. James Ritter of Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield will officiate. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Meier was born Jan. 21, 1929 in Echo, MN, the son of Paul and Ida (Schnackenberg) Meier. He married Else Meng on Aug. 18, 1958, in Kirn, Germany, and she preceded him in death on April 12, 2013.

After retiring from the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant, Mr. Meier was employed by Schmidt Motors and was a handyman and general laborer.

A member of Litchfield's VFW Post 3912 and Moose Lodge 1634, Mr. Meier was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield, enjoyed gardening and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

He is survived by two daughters, Anita Booher of Litchfield and Karin (Jeffery) Marion of Universal, TX; two sisters, Bernice Anderson of Belview, MN and Loida Cambell of Medford, OR; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Meier was preceded in death by brothers Glennis Meier, Paul Meier and Marvel Meier, sister Inez Johnson and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Lucykow and Jason Lucykow.
