William Dale Ward, 86, of Sullivan died at 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, May 25, at the First Christian Church in Sullivan. Inurnment will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan at a later date.

McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan assisted the family.

Mr. Ward was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Trenton, MO, a son of the late Jesse and Marguerite (Mann) Ward. He married Angie Adams on June 5, 1955, in Bethany, MO, and she survives.

An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a graduate of the University of Missouri.

Mr. Ward taught for two years in Hamilton, MO, and two years in Findlay before spending 33 years at Sullivan Junior High School.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Sullivan and was an active volunteer for local groups.

Along with his wife, Mr. Ward is survived by a son, David (Janet) Ward of Hillsboro; a daughter, Marsha (Rick) Thornton of Moberly, MO; a sister, Ada Branham of Buena Vista, VA; five grandchildren, Andrew Ward, Patrick Ward, Rachel Ward Hansen and Caitlyn and Hannah Thornton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Sullivan.
