Thomas Lewis Arnold, 87, of Farmersville, died on March 15, 2019, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Services with military rites will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 18, at the Farmersville Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Monday before services from 4-7 p.m. Family burial will take place at a later date in Macoupin Creek near Farmersville. Hough Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Arnold was born at the family farmhouse in Waggoner on Sept. 23, 1931, the son of Edgar and Bertha (Lewis) Arnold. He attended Waggoner School and was a graduate of Farmersville High School.

He married Barbara Gorin in Litchfield on July 27, 1952, and she survives. For most of his life Mr. Arnold farmed, and for over 30 years he worked as coal miner. He belonged to the United Mine Workers of America Local 69, was a past member of the Montgomery County Board, and had served as Pitman Township Supervisior

He served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955. He enjoyed being able to go on the Honor Flight with his son.

Mr. Arnold took pride in his community and supported many causes and activities. He enjoyed Cardinal baseball, golf, singing, wintering in Florida, and most of all, spending time with his many family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Patty (Lynn) Clarke of Farmersville, Debbie (David) Seaton of Edinburg, Andy (Lesley) Arnold of Auburn; grandchildren Josh Seaton, Blake (Maggie) Seaton, Kelsey (Alexander Johnson) Clarke and Clayton Clarke.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Stevens and Marge Clark.
