Aces Offense Folds Under Redskin Defensive Pressure

Posted

The Nokomis boys held Mulberry Grove to eight points in the first quarter and nine points total in the next three as the Redskins picked up a 54-17 road win over the Aces.

Playing without starting guard Alex Tosetti due to injury, the Redskins got a big game from Seth Johnson, who put 16 points to tie Carter Sabol for the team-high.

Seven of Johnson's 16 points came in the first quarter as the Redskins took a 15-8 lead after one. After yielding three field goals in the first quarter, Nokomis locked up the aces in the second, holding them to just two points on one made basket.

Offensively, Sabol would put in five points to give him seven at the half, while Evan Herpstreith scored four to give Nokomis a 31-10 halftime advantage.

In the second half it was more of the same as the Aces got five points from Kaleb Scoggins in the third quarter and two points from Ty Bauer in the fourth quarter, but that was it.

Johnson and Sabol combined for 13 points in the third frame, with Nokomis spreading around eight points between four different players in the fourth to secure the 54-17 win.

Sabol would add in eight rebounds to his 16 points as he and Johnson both nearly outscored the Aces on their own. Evan Herpstreith and Kendall Knodle would score six apiece, all coming in the first half, with Herpstreith also doling out six assists.

Jake Johnson would add in four points and six rebounds, while Elijah Aumann finished with four points as well. Cooper Bertolino added two to finish out the scoring in Nokomis' 12th win of the season.

The Redskins will be back at home on Friday, Jan. 31, as they take on the Knights of Metro-East Lutheran.
