Agnes Hawley, 100, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, at 9:28 p.m. at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation rites were accorded. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mrs. Hawley was born July 22, 1920, in the Province of Brescia, Italy, to Bartolo and Giovanna (Zanni) Malisia. She married David Henry Hawley on Aug. 17, 1947, in Coffeen, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1991.

She arrived in the U.S. in 1922, at the young age of two. She spent her younger years in Panama, graduating from Panama School.

At the age of 17, Mrs. Hawley began her waitressing career in Pekin. Returning to Panama when her mother became ill, she began working at The Moonlight Y. Years later, she and her husband became managers of the “Y.” Most will remember her from years at The Country Squire in Hillsboro.

She was a hard-working, devoted mother and grandmother who loved being with her family. Visits from her grandchildren were always a treat. She loved animals, especially her furry grandbabies. She enjoyed working outside in her yard, watching St. Louis Blues hockey, old-fashioned country music, needlework of various sorts and, in later years, her Word Find books.

Mrs. Hawley is survived by her daughters, Karen (Mark) Barnett of Williamsville and Martha Hawley of Hillsboro; grandchildren, David Hanson of Sherman, Jessica (Matt) Sheerin of Virden, Christopher (Alexandria) Hanson of Springfield and Aaron (Brooke) Barnett of Breese; great-grandchildren, Cale, Nolan, Henley and Cameron; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Malisia and Leo Malisia.

Memorials may be directed to Cress Hill Cemetery Association, 1615 Vandalia Street, Hillsboro, IL 62049 or Benld Adopt-A-Pet, PO Box 6162, Springfield, IL 62708.
