Albert "Al" E. Schumacher, 81, of Vandalia,died on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at Heritage Health in Springfield.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on  Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, and at 10 a.m., prior to the service, on Wednesday, at the church. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the church, with Pastor Terry Westerfield officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Military Rites will be accorded by The Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95 of Vandalia and Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schumacher was born on Oct. 12, 1937, in Springfield, to Laroy and Margaret Clara (Boesdorfer) Schumacher. He married Kathleen Susann  Dickey on June 8, 1985, in Rochester. Mr. Schumacher was the former head of the loan department at National Bank of Hillsboro and manager of the Hillsboro Bank of Vandalia for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Schumacher was a member of First United Methodist Church of Vandalia and was very active in church and community affairs. He belonged to the Vandalia Fire and Police Commissioners,was District Deputy Director of the Lion's Club, played Santa Claus for over 15 years and was a former president of the Hillsboro School Board.

Mr. Schumacher is survived by his wife; children, Rod (Brenda) Schumacher of Nashville, TN, Curt (Beth) Schumacher of Edwardsville, their mother Evelyn Schumaker, and Vic Devos of Auburn, and Kelley (Ron) Hopwood of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Sarah, Justin, Makenzie, Chloe, Kylie, Brock, Dylan, Braden and Mason; a brother, Roger Schumacher of Springfield; and a sister, Arlene (Jake) Lyons of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Timothy Brooks; an infant daughter, Michelle Lynn; and one sister, Verna Cutler.
