Alice Maxine (Jones) May, 104, died on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at 10:32 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Aug. 13, beginning at 1 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend with the Rev. Jeff Hemken, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, and Dr. Ronald D. Rhodus of Carlinville co-officiating. Family and friends will meet at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 12 p.m. to proceed to the cemetery. Those attending the services are asked to adhere to CDC guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing.

Mrs. May was born May 24, 1916, in East Fork Township, to Joe B. and Fay O. (Edwards) Jones. She married William F. May, Sr. on May 17, 1936, in Hillsboro, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1969.

She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1935. She was a wife and mother, who worked in the kitchen of Dutch Mill Restaurant in Hillsboro and in food service for the Hillsboro School District for 17 years.

Mrs. May was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau; Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where she helped with Bible school and loved her Sunday school class; and Royal Neighbors of America. 

She crocheted hats for new babies at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield and Head Start, and loved animals, horses and going to yard sales. Additionally, she collected horse statues and music boxes.

Mrs. May is survived by two children, James Dale (wife Carol) May and Janet Durbin, both of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” F. May, Jr; and brother, Joe C. Jones.
