Allan M. Comer, 84, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, from 12 to 1 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. James Hayes officiating. Burial will take place in Bluff Cemetery in Hillsboro with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 1306 of Taylor Springs and Irving American Legion Post 425.

Mr. Comer was born April 19, 1935, in Hillsboro, to Kenneth and Roberta (Dukes) Comer. He had a special friend, Mildred Hitt, then Esther Colyer for over 44 years.

After graduating from Hillsboro High School, he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.

Mr. Comer worked at Propellex Corp. in Donnellson and retired as a certified coal mine examiner.

He was a member of St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where he helped with Vacation Bible School and built birdhouses with the children. He was also a member of the NRA and Illinois State Police Association. He enjoyed fishing, gospel music and gardening.

Mr. Comer is survived by one daughter, Alicia Francine Renae Crump-Comer of Greenville; two grandchildren, Aaron and Serigo; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; and his dog, Tommy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David, Dale and Robert "Bob" Comer; and one sister, Marjorie Akers.
